Tamerri Festival 2017: “Earth Made”

Greetings Tamerrians!

The Tamerri Festival is coming to Abuja once again, and this edition will not be for those simply seeking an evening of fun – this year’s edition is for those who want to sing and dance and share the goodness of the arts with others.

The 2017 edition spans over 3 days, from the 30th of November – 2nd of December, 2017, in the beautiful city of Abuja, at Sarius Palmetum Botanical Garden in Maitama.

Our theme for this year is #EarthMadewhich focuses on what the earth has to offer us, as well as community growth and will truly make you feel a part of the earth, the people and the beauty of Nigeria.

Over the 3 days of the Tamerri Festival, we have activities and events for anyone of any age to enjoy!

There are such activities as the Human Library, Learning and Craft workshops, Fashion shows, Photo exhibitions, Film Screenings, Games, a Boutique, Yoga and Meditation, a Wellness Spa, Food, Drinks and much more in addition to the soulful African and Jazz infused music from Nigeria’s alternative artists suh as Bez, Cef, Elle, Tara & Bella, Rubunu, Jessica Bongos, Falana, Stixx, Cheso, Knote, Femi Leye and many more!

What’s in store for Tamerri 2017?

Thursday (30th November, 2017):

  • 6am – 7am: Mediations and workout
    • We start off the morning with sessions from various health and fitness outfits that aim to get us to start our mornings with movement. Provisions will also be made for those who choose to engage in meditative exercise. Such activities include Aerobics, Yoga with O’Lifestyle Holistic, Afrobics, Martial Arts and Morning Fitness with BodyRox Fitness.
  • 8am: Festival Opening
    • The Festival officially opens for the first day. Tamerrians can visit the all day Fashion Boutique, the Wellness Center, play games, or have a meal from Cilantro.
  • 3:00 – 6pm: Children activities and educational workshops
    • This is an opportunity for festival goers to try their hand at creating crafts with small courses taught by professionals and masters in various fields, ranging from arts to science.
  • 5:30pm – 6:00pm: Fashion Exhibition
  • 6:00pm – 6:30pm: Performance
    • Chicago Bucket Boys
  • 6:30pm – 6:50pm: Film Screening
    • Smoke That Travels by Kyla Briet
  • 8:30pm – 9:00pm: Acrobats and fire dancers

Friday (1st December, 2017):

  • 6am – 7am: Mediations and workout
  • 8am: Art Exhibition
    • Curated by Tammy Sinclair of Sueno
  • 9am: Children Funfair
  • 11am: Human Library
    • The human library is an international movement that promotes an inclusive way to challenge prejudice through social contact. Patrons will select a book title and a story is told through people having a conversation.
  • 2pm – 2:30pm: Weaverbird Session
    • This is an opportunity for creatives, business owners and influencers within Abuja to come and speak to the Tamerri audience about their journey to becoming established in Nigeria, as well as advice on how to stand out in the “creative age”. It is also an opportunity for Tamerrians to connect with those who inspire them.
  • 3pm – 3:30pm: GHIEF Session
    • GHIEF stands for Global Hope Integrated Empowerment Foundation. A Non-profit in Nigeria focused on women and child. GHIEF invests in the lives of women and children everyday. Changing lives everyday by providing nutrition, health, education, childhood development, shelter and empowerment for women and children. As our official non-profit partners, we have given GHIEF the platform to speak with an audience that can make a difference in the community and in the lives of thousands.
  • 4:00 – 4:30pm: Tamerri Radio
    • Weaverbird Session
  • 5:00pm: Parade
  • 6:30pm – 7:30pm: Fashion Show
    • Nigerian brands take on the “Earth Made” theme and showcase what it means to them and their personal style.
  • 7:30pm – 11:30pm: Earth Vibes Concert
    • A live concert featuring Tara & Bella, Amuta Stone, Cheso, Falana as well as poetry performences.
  • 11:30 – 12am: Bonfire
    • We cap all the evenings with a bon fire where everyone is welcome to discuss, sing, dance and truly bond over the day’s activities.

Saturday (2nd December, 2017):

  • 6am – 7am: Mediations and workout
  • 10:00am: Fashion Workshops
  • 11am: Human Library
  • 1:00pm – 1:45pm: Weaverbird Session
  • 2:00pm – 2:45pm: Wiz Conversation
  • 3:00pm – 4:00pm: Pauline Torehall
  • 4:30pm – 5:30pm: Masquerade/Traditional Dance 
    • As part of the festival, there will be various cultural dance troupes and colourful parades of native masquerades. Participants can observe or jump right in if the music moves them!
  • 6:30pm – 7:30pm: Dance Cypher and Performance
    • Abuja Musical Cast
  • 7 pm – 10 pm: Music Concert
    • A final poetry and music concert will close off the Tamerri stage featuring Bez, Cef, Jeremiyah Gyand and many more.
  • 10 pm – 11 pm: Camp Bonfire
    • We end the final night with a bonfire at the venue.
